Daniel Walzer is an Indianapolis-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and audio engineer. Originally trained as a percussionist, Walzer’s recording discography includes more than two dozen albums as a session musician, engineer, and producer. A versatile collaborator, Walzer’s performance credits span a wide range of commercial and art music styles and include a five-year stint living in Nashville, TN. As a composer and collaborator, Walzer’s work has been featured at the New York Electroacoustic Music Festival, the International Computer Music Festival, New Music on the Bayou, TUTTI New Music Festival, and labels including Janus Music and Sound and others. Presently, Walzer works as an Assistant Professor of Music and Arts Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and maintains an active career as an academic researcher and creative practitioner.

Essence of Now is Walzer’s sixth album as a bandleader and showcases his production versatility on piano, drums, mallets, percussion, and audio engineer. The title commemorates the 20th anniversary of Essence of Now Records, a Midwest-based record label that Walzer started in 2001. Under Walzer’s vision and guidance, the label released several albums featuring national radio airplay, multiple Cincinnati Entertainment Award nominations, and positive reviews. The majority of Essence of Now was tracked and mixed during the recent pandemic and reflects Walzer’s eclectic influences in styles ranging from jazz, progressive rock, and contemporary classical to new age and ambient EDM. Along with Walzer’s performing, songwriting, and mixing work, Essence of Now features contributions from bassists Adam Nitti and Aaron Jacobs, saxophonist Jay Reynolds, guitarists Dave Isaacs, Toby Ellis, and Doug Dunlap, cellist Aaron Fried, and percussionist Gareth Dylan Smith. The album was mastered by Ken Love at Sweetwater Studios and is available on all major streaming platforms.
